With love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration (2025)

An American in America… with a British spouse.

Following on the January 2025 release of With love, Meghan, the Duchess has returned with a one-off holiday special on Netflix. While she and her husband have their ardent supporters and those… less so… online, this won’t do much to assuage either side. It’s a perfectly middling holiday special during which she visits with famous friends, experts in their own fields all, over food and holiday crafts.

So now my burning question is - are Christmas crackers really not a thing in the U.S.?!? I feel so bad for you, America. Crackers are fantastic! Having grown up in a heavily British-influenced community overseas, these were always a part of my Christmases and even in Canada they are everywhere during the holiday season.

I did also like the touch of making something in the favourite flavour profile (cacio e pepe) of her first guest, Will Guidara of Unreasonable Hospitality fame, without it being so on the nose as to try and cook her guest’s favourite dish. Will and Tom Colicchio (Top Chef) were the highlights for me. I particularly liked hearing how Tom’s family does the Feast of the Seven Fishes (or more these days, he says). I’ve convinced my own husband that we should do this one year, even though we are not Italian American in any way. Now just to pick when we can do that and who we’ll inflict invite to it.

If Meghan can end up as a Martha Stewart / Ina Garten type in this next phase of her life, I’d honestly be just fine with that.

You’ll like this if…

You like your holiday hosting specials with no drama, just perfectly even. Neither particularly comforting nor challenging in any way. My heart rate didn’t spike like when I watch a competitive baking show, nor was it so twee that I was rolling my eyes. Perfectly fine, and I think that’s just right for something like this.
