Miracle in Bethlehem, PA (2023)
A real miracle will be if the red flags amount to nothing…
A dog named Donkey. Newly-adopted Natalie. New mother, Mary Ann. And wannabe baby daddy Joe.
Forget every other Christmas movie trope, this rips plot points right from the headlines the Bible. From no room at the Bethlehem Star Inn, stranded travelers, and the story of a baby of unknown parentage, this is the Christmas movie. Unfortunately it’s just not all that engaging and, frankly, somewhat hard to believe. I found it hard to be convinced that a new mother, desperate to adopt, would be relatively carefree about her newborn daughter. I’ve been there as a new mother - the anxiety and fear that accompanies every squeak and moan coming from a newborn babe. And to find yourself attracted to this overgrown teenager of a man… Sure, he has his own house (inherited from his parents), but he treats it like a frat house, replete with bags of chips and beer cans. Maybe let’s not shack up with the stranger right away, hmm? You’re a successful attorney - perhaps a bit more critical thinking time once the rush of bringing home a newborn has worn off a little.
