Haul Out the Halloween (2025)

A season-bridging entry

Rounding out (tbd) the Evergreen Lane trilogy of Haul Out the [insert holiday phrasing here] movies starring Lacey Chabert, Wes Brown and a stacked cast of Hallmark go-tos, this was the first new 2025 entry on my list this year. And so far? We’re off to a good start!

I am not a fan of scary movies, so this was a good Halloween movie for my sensibilities and it walked the line between continuing on what was done in the first two movies while also tackling another holiday. I get a little bit of HOA PTSD when I watch the Haul Out movies, but that’s a topic for me and my therapist.

Anyway, in this installment we see Evergreen Lane turned into Everscream Lane, replete with the HOA vs residents tension we’ve come to expect from these movies. But rather than tousling over tinsel, the townsfolk are in for a wickedly hard time transforming their quiet cul de sac into a trick-or-treater delight. In this we see them trading caroling for pumpkin painting (because carving and pumpkin guts are gross), and gingerbread houses for a beastly bake off. There’s even a great little homage to The Wizard of Oz thrown in for good measure. A missed opportunity to put Lacey Chabert in a black rubber cat suit for old time’s sake, but you can’t win ‘em all. I’ll settle for the Frankenstein rap and Nickelback on Elm Street, with front man Chaddy Kreuger.

I do enjoy that the writers seem to enjoy throwing in quirky banter that fits these characters with oversize personalities, and having a lot of the same production team behind this movie as it’s predecessors pays off with a comfortable, relatable watch.
