Jingle Bell Run (2024)
Maybe don’t run towards this one…
Despite starring two legit Hallstars - Andrew Walker and Ashley Williams - this one was really a let down. My best guess is that Walker was under some kind of 2-Christmas movie contract and this was a very fast option to add to the Countdown in 2024.
Williams is a bookworm elementary school teacher and Walker is a recently-retired pro hockey player. They find themselves thrust together as teammates in a Christmas themed Amazing Race-type competition that sees them travelling right across the BC lower mainland continental United States. Self-described as the “brain” and the “braun,” they overcome personality, physical, and intellectual challenges quickly, ultimately coming out on top of the competition. And maybe even falling for each other along the way… showmance, anyone? Or true romance? This is Hallmark, so I bet you can guess where this one ends up.
But even with some cutesy Christmas team names, themed activities, and even some country Christmas line dancing, this is yet another entry onto the list of movies that ostensibly take place at Christmas (and even then, only barely), but isn’t itself really a Christmas movie.
Easily forgettable, this one won’t be on my rewatch list. I have much higher hopes for the Three Wiser Men and a Baby sequel.
