A Royal Montana Christmas (2025)

A Royal Dude Ranch

The first 2025 entry to the Countdown to Christmas coming in with spurs on (just don’t squat in them)!

We find Victoria, a royal from a nondescript European country (that is only depicted as one small ballroom), who escapes to a Montana ranch to relive memories of her childhood shared with her father… who was a royal and wannabe cowboy. While there, she’s desperate to bring back the Holly-Day Dance of her youth - yes! Let’s put on a show dance!

A lot of the standard Christmas movie fare shows up throughout the movie, including:

  • A physical run-in … right over his Christmas decorations

  • Beautiful log cabin and western barns

  • Cutting down a Christmas tree in the wild

  • Gingerbread house decorating

  • Need to put on a dance

  • Filmed in Canada - which begs the question - WHY does this need to be “Montana"? Just call it a Royal Western Christmas.

A few notes.

  • Stop with the accents. Just stop. They felt so awkward and forced. You need literally two lines of dialogue and you can avoid it entirely:

    • “Why don’t you have an accent?”

    • “Oh, I went to boarding school in [name a country… anything other than England].”

  • I know this was played for comedic effect, but…

    • “The only ranch I’m familiar with is ranch dressing". - as IF those words would ever be uttered by a European royal matriarch! I am fairly certain ranch dressing has never graced the tables of a European palace, lol.

This didn’t feel super Christmassy, but I did enjoy the setting.

You’ll like this if…

The western Christmas aesthetic really works with 2025’s hottest Christmas trend - a Ralph Lauren Christmas.
