Best. Christmas. Ever! (2023)
No, this is not a Christmas movie about swingers…
…despite what the poster seems to imply.
Jackie (Brandy) and her family appear to live the idyllic suburban life. University friend Charlotte and her family, on the other hand, is stressed and trying to make the perfect life for her family but finds roadblocks along the way. The annual Christmas newsletter from Jackie and a troublesome kid messing with the GPS means that the families are united under Jackie’s roof for Christmas. Hellbent on proving her friend’s life isn’t as perfect as it seems, Charlotte goes a little mad trying to uncover the truth, but wasn’t at all expecting what she found.
With a touch of the fantastical, this movie reads as a little bit slapstick until the twist. I won’t spoil it completely in case you do watch it, suffice to say that no, Jackie’s life isn’t as perfect as it may seem.
I probably wouldn’t watch it again, and Jason Biggs and Heather Graham may have their best years on film behind them, but at least some of the Netflix budget meant this wasn’t entirely unwatchable.
