The Finnish Line (2024)

Must love dogs. And a never ending series of winter parkas.

Every year there is at least one movie in the Countdown that is filmed on location - in this case, Iceland and Finland (including Lapland, Santa’s ‘hood).

Anya is a second generation sled dog racer, looking to complete her deceased father’s legacy and win the Joulurauha race (fictional race, but the term means “Christmas Peace” in Finnish). When her lead dog gets injured, Anya has to borrow one from a retired racer turned reporter, Cole, in order to continue. And there we have the opportunity for romance, naturally.

Relatively engaging with a bit of a different plot with all the gorgeous sled dogs stealing the show at every opportunity. Most of the value comes from getting to see some Finnish Christmas traditions and a series of excellent winter parkas - seriously, the costume budget for this movie…

Other than that, it didn’t feel particularly Christmassy, but decent enough to watch.

You’ll like this if…

You like the movies that aren’t sickeningly twee.
